Blood sugar support for type 2 diabetes

How it works in 3 simple steps

  1. 1

    Tell us about your health

Complete an online health questionnaire and meet with a clinician who is licensed where you live.

  2. 2

    A clinician decides

Your clinician reviews your history and decides whether a prescription is appropriate. Choosing a product online is not a prescription.

  3. 3

    Begin care if prescribed

If treatment is prescribed, a licensed pharmacy dispenses it, and your clinician follows your progress with regular check-ins.

Why Ozempic?

Along with diet and exercise, Ozempic is used to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. In adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease, it also lowers the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke.

Ozempic and Wegovy share an ingredient but have different labeling and dosing. This page does not describe Ozempic as a weight-loss product.

Important safety information

Boxed warning

Semaglutide and tirzepatide medicines carry a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in animal studies. They should not be used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.

  • Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and decreased appetite. They are usually most noticeable while the dose is being increased.
  • Serious but less common risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney injury from dehydration, and severe allergic reactions. Seek medical help right away for severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting or signs of an allergic reaction.
  • Tell your clinician about every medicine you take, especially insulin or sulfonylureas, because blood sugar can drop too low.
  • Tell your clinician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy. Treatment plans differ in these situations.
  • People with diabetic eye disease should be monitored, because quick improvements in blood sugar can temporarily worsen retinopathy.

This is a summary only. Ask your clinician for the full prescribing information and report any side effects to them.

Questions about Ozempic

Is Ozempic for weight loss?

Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes. Wegovy, which also contains semaglutide, is the version labeled for chronic weight management.

How is it taken?

Once a week with a pre-filled pen. Your clinician teaches you how to inject and how to raise the dose.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. This is a prescription medicine. A licensed clinician must evaluate you and decide whether it is appropriate before anything can be prescribed.

Will I definitely be prescribed it?

No. Selecting a product on this site does not guarantee a prescription. The decision rests with your clinician after reviewing your health history.

Can I take it with other medical conditions?

Your clinician reviews your history, current medicines and any conditions to decide whether it is safe for you. Always share complete information.

What if I am pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy?

Tell your clinician before starting. These medicines are not recommended during pregnancy, and your clinician will advise on timing if you plan to conceive.
